Jane Erin Emmet De Glehn (1873-1961)
American artist, born at New Rochelle, New York, who studied at New York’s Art Students League under Frederick William MacMonnies (1863-1937) and in Paris. A cousin of the novelist Henry James, Jano as she was known came from a distinguished New York family of artists. She married Wilfred De Glehn in 1904 and showed both before and after her marriage at the RA, Chenil Gallery, FAS, Goupil Gallery, Grosvenor Gallery, ISSPG, WAG, London Salon, NEAC, and RHA. Through her family’s connections she became part of the Anglo-American circle surrounding John Singer Sargent, often travelling with him, and strongly influenced by his style.
